Beautiful products with a story to tell
Add a splash of colour to your life with our range of beautiful products, handcrafted by artisan women’s groups in Africa.
From baskets and cushions to belts and bags, every item is made using traditional techniques which have been passed down through the generations.
At Lamoi we are proud to offer practical support to these talented women and their communities. We care for the environment too, with sustainable sisal or banana fibre used to weave our baskets, and bold colour created using natural dyes.
More lines will be added over the coming months so watch this space!
Colourful, practical and empowering
Whether you are looking to add zing to your home décor or you want to brighten up your personal style, we can help.
Our exciting range of products – all handcrafted by women’s groups in Africa – is bold and bright and continues to grow with more items set to be added over the coming months.
Beautiful handwoven baskets and bowls make up the centrepiece of our shop. They have so many practical uses around the home and come in a wide range of sizes and designs.
Whether you are buying for yourself or as a gift, we know you will find something you love – from cotton cushions in bold African prints and beaded belts suitable for both men and women to striking jewellery made from recycled paper and handcrafted collars for your four-legged friend.
Crafting a brighter future
Lamoi was established by Jenifer Akwero, who grew up in Uganda. She is passionate about empowering African artisans to use their traditional crafting skills to contribute to the wellbeing of their communities.
The name Lamoi is a combination of Jenifer’s two children’s names and means strong willed in the dialect of Luo.
Currently our stock is sourced from groups in Kenya and Uganda, however we are looking to work with women’s groups all over Africa.
As well as providing a market and a fair price for these beautifully crafted items, we work with the women’s groups to plant crops such as maize and hibiscus which they can sell to give them further income and stability.
